Remove unwanted ads or add-ons, try private browsing

If you ever see an advertisement on MapQuest that is overlapping or interfering with the features of our site and you don't see a way to close it, chances are it's actually coming from a third-party and not MapQuest.

Add-ons are small pieces of software that add new features or functionality to your web browser. Sometimes add-ons can cause problems that prevent web pages from displaying properly, cause intrusive advertisements to appear, or prevent you from using certain MapQuest features.

One easy action you can take to rule out add-on interference is to use a "private browsing" session to test Most modern browsers offer some form of private browsing, which loads webpages without loading any extensions or add-ons, cookies, or cached images or files so that everything will load fresh without interference from third-party sources.

If you think add-ons may be interfering with your browsing experience, please see the section for your specific, fully supported browser below for help disabling them...

To run Internet Explorer (versions 10 and 11) with no add-ons:

  1. Access the Charm Bar either by moving your mouse all the way to the right side of your screen, or by pressing the Windows Key and letter "C" simultaneously
  2. Select “Search”
  3. Type (or copy and paste) “C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe –extoff”
  4. Once the add-ons are disabled, please visit to see if any issues persist
